I have two older male gerbils, and I just got two 6 week old male gerbils. I wasn't going to put them all together, but my older one seemed interested in getting to know the younger ones so I put them a separated cage and watched to see what would happen.
My older ones were going up and sniffing and even grooming the face of the younger ones withen minutes, which I thought was a bit strange because usually my older boys are very protective of their territory.
After a half hour which I know you're suppose to keep them in the separated cage for at least a month) I decided to take the separator out.
Nothing bad happened, they sniffed each other and the older ones groomed the little ones, but there is one slight problem, one of the younger ones wont stop squeaking. When a gerbil squeaks it's usually a scared thing right? But they're not aggressive with each other at all...
Why is he squeaking? Should I separate them and wait for the younger ones to get a bit older?
