9 charged in sex slavery case in LA

Prostitution is just like porn, when people want to fight it they need a victim, so they talk about how harmful porn is to children, and how we need to stamp it out for the protection of the children.

Like I said earlier in the post it's an unlikely coalition of evangelicals, feminist, liberals, conservatives, and of course good writers selling magazine articles that make out sex slavery out to be more than it is so they can sell magazines, and push the agenda.

Of course sex slavery occurs in 3rd world countries, and to some intent in the United States, but I don't think it occurs to the extent we are being told, if fact these articles have a hard time supporting their evidence when you look closely at the evidence.

There are some that tell us all prostitutes are handled to a certain extent, that almost all of them have pimps, padrotes, or handlers and nobody engaged in prostitution is free...even if they think they are free. I find this doubtful?

A scam I came across that is being played everyday in Tijuana is something I heard about from other sex workers, and read about it while searching the web. I came across some pimp site, and some pimp now in Tijuana was doing this well known scam" ( it's nobody from this site)

They would approach an English speaking bar girl and buy her a drink. And very quickly because he didn't want to waste his money on drinks, as it's very important not to look like a chump who is only after a girl pussy.( he wouldn't fuck these girls either) He would ask her if she wanted to come to America on a visa? If she said yes, he would explain that he would marry her, and bring her to America. But that he wanted something more, that we wanted a business they could both do in America, but it would cost money......so before they could get married and come to America to start the business......that the Mexican chica would have to continue to prostitute herself out, and they would pool their money to start the business. In reality it would be her money, and the pimp would hold it....and when the chica would wise up, he would take the money and try the scam again on some other unsuspecting girl! Like a telemarketer the pimp would run this by chica after chica until someobody would fall for it.

That scam has already been played out with all the variations as it's very doubtful that a pimp could get a chica to bite, but I guess you never know?

Hell when a chica tells me she wants to come to America with me and be my novia, I talk shit back with similar scam like talk,,,,but it's only just talk as we both are fooling around.

The only way to understand why Manolo Guillen wrote this is to see his rabid point of view that prostitution is totally illegal under US laws.

Here is an article about trafficking in Mexico and specifically Tijuana. I find much of what I read sensationalist half truths and outright bullshit! For example no where do bar owners auction off young girls as if they are live stock. As the girls are suppose to be over 18 have health cards, and come and go as they please. They are not forced to work in bars...being treated as fresh meat, while yes that goes on by the customers, but it's not forced.

Thanks for the heads up on the law change regarding seizing John's cars. i didn't know they overturned the law, as I always felt it was unconstitutional, but it looks like the Supreme Court hasn't taken this case up on appeal, as our conservative supreme court would side with law enforcement and allow cops to seize cars of John's. I noticed it's still allowed for the police to seize your car for 48 hours, and if your married you'll have a hard time explaining where the car is.

I have to concur with you and say that LE has put a damper on prostitution. I have long been a partaker of the joys of Bloomington and the Inland Empire as that is where I live. But when I discovered TJ over 13 years ago I seldom ventured into those joints. TJ is only a 2 hour drive for me and a wonderful place to monger. Many lovely girls either in the clubs or the occasional find amongst the many SGs there. Ha, I miss Guadelupe and girls like her. The infamous Tanya is charging $150 an hour for what you used to enjoy for $60 at Adelitas. But TJ is still my favorite place. Find a girl, sit with her, ask her if she is hungry and then maybe get her to go to Otai with me to the Plaza Americana for dinner and a movie. Then off to the hotel Gigante for all night fun. $ 20.80 for the night and no knock on the door to interrupt. Sure it works better if you have a favorita but then you all know the long term problems with that. Yeah, I still have one of those working in a "legit" massage parlor there.

The law was changed in the US and they can not seize your vehicle. But prostitution will NEVER be legalized. Any more than pot will. Nevada has the Bunny Ranch for "LEGAL" prostitution. Anything inside of Clark County (Las Vegas) is ILLEGAL. But we all know about Cityvibe and the endless sites for escorts in the US. Prostitution is there for you. Nothing can touch TJ for those of us that are close enough to drive there. It is safer than all the hassles and bullshit we have to deal with here in the US. I have been to the Philippines and it is an amazing paradise. But it is so far away and costs a lot to get there. TJ is fun and close. I have never had a problem in all of the 13 years I have been going down there. But I do not walk the streets drunk. What has already vaporized street level prostitution in San Diego is the Internet. El Cajon Boulevard (ECB) is almost completely devoid of street walkers. I stopped checking in, but as of just a couple of months ago, the web site that covers the ECB was replete with weeping and gnashing of teeth regarding the demise of the scene in San Diego. I haven't seriously cruised the area in almost a year. Whenever I take the time just to peruse the area, I never see any but the most desperate street walkers.

I have no knowledge of other cities but my guess would be the technology is having the same effect elsewhere.

I also have a problem with the label 'sex slaves' for many of these girts. As most providers in the US aren't under any kind of duress to preform sexually with you, at least you can't tell by outward appearances?

The most famous article is the one called The Girls Next Door, by Peter Landesman, I believe many of our stories we see on these sites are in part from his piece. LOS ANGELES - Nine Guatemalans were indicted for their roles in an alleged sex trafficking ring that lured young women to the United States with promises of good jobs and then forced them into prostitution, according to federal court records.

Four of the defendants pleaded not guilty in January to sex trafficking charges in the case. A superseding indictment, unsealed Thursday, includes more serious allegations that five of the 12 victims were minors.

According to the new 50-count indictment, the defendants at times sold Guatemalan women and girls to one another like slaves and allegedly brought the victims to witch doctors who threatened to put curses on them and their families if they ran away.

"These young women were enticed into coming to this country by promises of the American dream only to arrive and discover that what awaited was a nightmare," said Robert Schoch, a special agent in charge for U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

A federal grand jury in Los Angeles returned the indictment against Gladys Vasquez Valenzuela, 36; her sisters, Mirna Jeanneth, 26, and Albertina, 49; and Albertina's daughter, Maria Vicente de los Angeles, 28.

The four face charges of sex trafficking of minors; sex trafficking by force, fraud or coercion; violating federal laws prohibiting interstate or foreign transport of minors for prostitution; and importing and harboring undocumented immigrants and harboring them for prostitution.

Five others also were charged in the indictment for their roles in the scheme, including guarding the women to prevent them from escaping, threatening their families in Guatemala, and beating and forcing the women to work, authorities said.

Four of the female defendants were arrested in December during raids in Los Angeles. One additional suspect, Flor Morales Sanchez, 33, was arrested Thursday. Six defendants remain in custody without bond. Another, Maribel Rodriguez Vasquez, is a fugitive.

A lawyer representing Luis Vicente Vasquez, 31, who faces counts of bringing women into the country illegally for prostitution, denies his client did anything wrong.

"We are going to court on this," attorney Philip Deitch said.

Attorney Errol Stambler, who represents Mirna Jeanneth Vasquez, said his client was a victim, not a trafficker. He said his own investigation revealed she had been forced into prostitution to repay smugglers who brought her to the U.S, and that her pimp forced her to house teenage prostitutes.

The investigation began last year when two victims escaped with the help of a male customer and contacted authorities, according to the U.S. attorney's office.
Two other victims were rescued by investigators in November. Ten women at the locations raided also were believed to have been working as prostitutes.
