a big plus is if you can say a few common words in russian to the
ladies even if you say it 100% wrong, you will intrig them and they
will like the effort ,
you will see rewords for it .

By the way I can understand in general what a serbian want
if he say it in serbian to me.

I was just curious. Yes, I already have a Russian/English phrase book that ISN'T in cyrillic...so that's fine, but it's a tad awkward whilest trying to work My "Black Adder magic" wit da ladies! ROFL I know, I know...the ONLY magic the ladies I'm talking about wanna see is Rubles popping outta My wallet when it's over!

I'm still going to take Russian lessons, but I won't be very far along when My first visit takes place...so that's why I asked.

...And I figured knowing some conversational Russian would help whether it's with the working ladies or the guy on the street...it works that way everywhere else.

take it easy, no reason to get personal.
I suggested to 'invest' in a phrasebook precisely because it gives you some ready phrases and tells you how to pronounce them. Knowing a couple of sentences, being able to break the ice will help a guy a lot in Russia - Reviewom that point on the girl will take the lead.
You may get lucky finding a girl who would speak a foreign language, but you can't count on it, especially German - believe me, I'd studied Reviewench for 5 years in school and 5 years in college, that's why all Reviewench-speaking people start talking English to me as soon as they hear my 'Bon jour'.
And yes, I am Russian-speaking, born in the USSR, with Master degree (but I do dishes only at home). I do business in Russia and go there every year, so I am familiar with the country a little bit.
As for being factual, Russian people understand Serbian and Croatian (that's why there is no such country as Yugoslavia anymore) no better than Polish and Czech - trust me. In case you forgot, English belongs to the Germanic family of languages, does it make it any easier for you to understand German?
I am not in personal achievements competition and have no intention to go on arguing. I'm trying to help other people with some information - it's up to them to use it or not.

Mian read my letter, I SPEAK SPANISH, I can carry a conversation with any one that speaks Italian. The Languge is almost IDENTICAL,except the odd word. Yugoslavian is almost the same language,as Russian they can understand one another in most words, they are considered cousins. Dutch German are the same dialect, most Russians can speak german, they are not uneducated people like most of the West is. Now you learn something in life. If you do not beleive me go to a university and ask a liguindist teacher,some one that teaches languages. We learn something everyday,you just did.

Mian go buy a Dictionary read the cyrillic alphabet,there are only 4 letters in the Russian language that are pronounced the same as English. It aint easy to learn I am trying, one thing to point out I do not know if you ever been there, but most women have univerisity degrees University is Reviewee, there are no jobs there. And the wages are nothing to write about. Most people speak 2 or 3 languages. I did not go far in school I must admitt this grade 8, but I make more monety than the average American does thats for sure. Education is very very important in Russia they can barely mpford to feed themselves but they all 90% have degrees high degrees. Its not uncommon to see a woman washing dishes with a MBA. Go there someday if you can mpford it and see for yourself. I have been there and still dont believe how educated these people are. There is no comparison to North America. Thats why the USA has such a hard time with the Russian Mmpia, these thugs are scientis physicists etc very educated criminals, the FBI CIA says these are not ordinary criminals they are intelligent well educated criminals. Thats how smart these people are.

Logger, no offense, but what are you talking about: German, so-called Yugoslavian are the same language as Russian? What's next, Chinese?
Adder, even rudimentary knowledge of Russian would help you enourmously. C'mon, man, how much does a decent English-Russian phrase book cost, 20 bucks? Get a good one and memorize 10-20 sentences, like "you look terrific", "would you help a foreigher to have a nice dinner?", then you'll be able just show the want you wanna say - you'll see the results.

Black Adder. Renting Apt. is the only way to go. No hassels and cheaper. Restaraunts can be expensive. Saint Pete. Is the most beautifullest city in the world next to Czh Prauge. I had a good time, now I know the ropes some what. Next time it will be cheaper for me. But if you do not have a buddy it can be very lonely and harsh over there. There are no FAT OBIEST women there. I was AMAZED The women are open and promiscues. The average woman there is a 7 and they are not stuck up like the FAT SLOBS here in NORTH AMERICA. Its the place to go for a beautifull wife. Regarding that you find one your own age roughly or 10 years younger. Anything younger you would be asking for problems when they arrive here in North America.

Black Adder I speak spanish,its not very usefull over there. But I can understand Italian,poreforum.xxxuise. Now you speak German same dialeck as Russian. You would have NO Problem learning RUSSIAN, you have the battle half beat as it is. Like YUugoslavian is the same dialeck as Russian my Reviewiend. A lot of people in Russia speak German

I appreciate the info. I kinda figured that knowing the language would help with the ladies. It does with everything else...the problem is, German & English are my two languages...though I have wanted to take Russian for sometime now. Guess I'll sign up for classes this spring!

Sounds like the best (read cheapest) way to go in the FSU is to go outside of Moscow.

logger, don't get offended but you paid waaay too much, for a guide. A taxi driver is lucky to earn $300 a month. I'm not surprised he went everywhere with you, he probably didn't want you talking to anyone else. You've already been there, so I'm guessing you know roughly how to get around and I suggest next time go to a bar where the expats hang out (I forget the name, it's St. Pete's equivalent of the boarhouse, someone on expat.ru will tell you the name) and just hook up with some expat locals, won't cost you a cent. And they'll show you things like the student bars, some good parties, and generally show you the ropes. How much were you paying for girls if you don't mind me asking.

Black Adder I just came back Reviewom Saint Petersburg. If you can speak some RUSSIAN believe me things are a lot easier and a lot less EXSPENSIVE. I could not speak a word. I hired a taxi driver for the whole day the same guy for 2 weeks. He new where to go and a lot cheaper than if I went by myself. But I paid him $125.00 US a day. He was my best Reviewiend while I was there it was worth every cent. The first night I ask him how much he said $70.00 I paid him $125. He was kind and did everything for me. He got me the BEST hookers for cheap prices. But in the end I took some girls for dinner he always came. He did watch over me like a protecting father figure. I am going back soon I have his number Do you want it?
